The brief: Meet Amal

Created by Handspring Puppet Company (the makers of Warhorse), Little Amal is a 9ft refugee articulated puppet, symbolising hope for a new life for thousands of children refugees.

Creative idea

ilā created and conducted the music for Little Amal’s welcome to the shores of the UK. She reached Folkestone to the welcoming sounds of over 500 singers from local communities as well as from London Contemporary Voices, and Citizens of the World refugee choir after an epic trans-continental trek of more than 5000 miles.

Key takeout

Created in collaboration with young refugees from Kent Refugee Action Network, the project shines a light on the refugee crisis and has garnered critical acclaim internationally and across all major British newspapers and media.
