Beyond the Street
Street art exhibition design and organization
The brief
Beyond the Streets is a charity that works with women involved in the UK sex industry to see them safe from coercion, violence, and abuse. They wanted to create a fundraising and awareness event to celebrate the resilience and strength of women and allies, and to raise money to support their work.
Creative idea
Maison Mercury Jones designed the concept of ‘Female Fortitude’ a one of a kind street art exhibition and organised the full event supported by the teams at Beyond the Streets, from artists curation and management, brand partnerships, visual assets creation in collaboration with JKR to DJs booking, PR and promotion. The event was designed to use art, a form that mirrors the charity's work in the streets, to raise awareness of the challenges faced by women involved in the sex industry.
The exhibition showcased the work of 22 famous street artists, who created pieces that celebrated the strength and resilience of women. Original pieces of street art as well as a special line of merchandise created especially for the event were available for sale on site and then online, with all proceeds going to the charity. On the night, 9 of the artists worked together during a live paint jam to collaborate and create a wall of art celebrating women's resilience. The atmosphere of creativity and social awareness was supported by back-to-back setlists mixed by 4 up-and-coming DJs: new electro phenomenon and Rinse FM residents DJs Sim0ne and Eleanor, as well as Southampton's rising star Amy Willow and French DJ Modolo.
